RULE OF PLAYING “CAMEL POLO”

Following rule will be governed by “Camel-ball” or all kinds of competition of “Camel Polo” on the territory of Mongolia.

It aims to breed camel herds, protect 2-humped camels that are becoming very rare in the world, initiate Camel polo sport game, which is as brand new kind of ancient and aristocratic polo sport in Mongolia as well as disseminate worldwide.

Camel polo is like as Elephant polo for playing and rule, but it is a brand new kind of sport game. Owner of intellectual property is Member of Parliament Mr. Oyunbaatar, Tserendash, and it is granted with Certificate of Copy rights by Intellectual property Office of Mongolia.

Camel polo is specific team sport of the Polo game which is a kind of public physical training and this rule is conformed to be governed in detail by competitions between teams and sportsmen as well as aimag, local, cities, towns and State’s competitions and preparatory training. Managers of the Camel Polo association branches in aimags and soums, head of teams who assigned by the given aimags, trainers, referees, field referees and chief referees are in charge of following this rule. If the ratified rule is violated, violator will be fined according to the below-mentioned paragraph.

Article1: 1: Camel-ball or polo relates to technical sport. It is very important how to prepare or train camels, learn right techniques of beat and firmly prepare protecting tools.

One. How must sportsmen prepare themselves and their camels?

1. Members who joined to the Camel polo association branches of first instance in bags and soums, follows the rule, pay the membership fee within fixed term and keep member’s identification card with themselves have the rights to participate in competitions.
2. Strings of camel saddle stirrup straps and ties must be made by as possible as solid materials /leather strap and sewn hair rope/ and competition teams’ sportsmen must wear special helmets, clothes which are same colored, suitable for the given season and have a visible from far number at front and back side. Two hours before training and competition, team members should have examined their preparation by the team trainer or team leader and signed on the instruction on playing safety as well as documents of authorization. All sportsmen must member of the Mongolian Camel Polo Association.
3. Chief doctor of the team and competition will be given the sportsmen’s names to the secretary and referee with the statement on conformability for health to participate in the competition.
4. Protection for the front shins of the camels that are going to participate in the playing must be regularly provided during training, test and competition and camels must be put on a halter. Chief referee exercises the right to not allow entering to the playing field if protecting tools are insufficient or are not meeting the requirements.
5. Due to any reason, sportsmen and camels make waiting in the training or playing field for more than 5 minutes, field referee or referee’s council solves the issue on exclusion of the given team from the playing.
6. During the stages No. 1 and 2 of the playing, it is resolutely prohibited to change the camels. If there is a reasonable excuse, only a sportsman or camel can be changed, or in case it is impossible to continue the playing, each one sportsman will be excluded from each team.
7. Each team members are representing their aimag, soum, region, town and city, thus sportsmen must have a higher disciplinary and strictly follow each provision of this rule as follows:

- If wrong hit or grave inflict-able hit with technical mistake is provided depending on sportsman’s skills, field referee halt the competition by blowing a whistle and allow the competitor-team for one time fine hit; and if referee consider this kind of hit is danger or the sportsman repeat such kind of mistake, referee exercises the rights to take measure up to exclusion from the competition.

Two. Grounds for curtail the rights

 

- If sportsmen’s clothes and tools, other means including striking devices for safety as well as shins’ protection of the camel are incomplete
- Doctor refused due to sportsman’s health or sportsman used alcohol
- Immoral behavior is provided in the field or
- In case referee’s requirements are not satisfied, field referee or referee’s council is obliged to take the appropriate measures arranging a technical meeting each time and being strictly followed the rule’s provisions

Item two: In case there are no a doctor, referee and trainer at the time of choice of camels, independent and team training, solely team trainer or team leader will bear all the responsibility on behalf of the Association’s Rule. Sportsmen will enjoy the rights to refusal from assuming duties not specified in the Rule. And also the following duties are obliged for them:
- Team members and leader choose saddle cushions, camel halters, and other tools as well as striking devices
- All sportsmen’s safety

Three. Playing field and Playing rule

On the basis of he data on horse polo playing noted in the ancient books as well as sportsmen and grassroots’ opinion, the following measures are provided:

- Length of the playing field – 150 m /in some cases, it can be 200 m/
- Width of the playing field – 100 m
- Specially prepared fence /rapes with colored flags/
- Note-lines will be marked in the field with chalk and coal
- Width of goal door – less than 5 m
- Height of goal door – 1.5 m
- Small flags with special marks made by wood and iron

Field referee stands in both sides of the goal doors holding red and white flags; and notify publicly signaling with the red flag at each ball entry. Because large distance of the playing field is suitable for Mongolian camels’ strength and scores must be notified using colored flags.

Each team consists of 5 members and each member will have specially trained camel:

- Attacker / Forwarder – 2
- Goalkeeper – 2
- Merger and Goal tender – 1

Team leader can involve in the Team members or he or she can be a trainer. When the competition starts, leaders of 2 teams will be invited in the field center and they will put ball and go away. With whistle signal, ball will be hit. At this time, forwarders and goaltenders will have placed in the outside of the central circle. The competition has first and second stages. Duration of each stage is 10 minutes and duration if timeout is 5 minutes. In case scores of the two stages’ playing was equal, it can be extended once for 5 minutes and playing of stage No. 3 will be continued. If any of the teams could not enter a goal 5 players of each team will make a hit from 10 m distance to the goal door. During camel’s running, the hit will be made. In this case, the player halted a camel or made a hit with mistake, he cannot make a hit again.

- During playing, a team will provide a ball and sportsman of another team will enter a ball into the field. At that time goalkeepers of another team will place in the distance less than 3 m from the goal-maker and start goal tendering playing with ball hitting by referee’s signal.

Fine hit

- About technique of the ball hitting, when the sportsmen of two teams contest for ball, it is prohibited to wave the striking devices above the camel head and to make a strong hit. These conducts will be considered as mistakes. This rule is not applied for a sportsman who is holding the ball solely and entering the ball into the field.
- During playing, attack by a player into a sportsman of another team who is holding the ball, is prohibited and will be considered as a mistake.
- When hit the ball, which is entered into the goaltender’s protecting field, goal door, is attacked, this conduct will be considered as a mistake.
- If referee consider a breach as slight, he can make once a remind and note.
- When sportsmen make mistake field referee halts the playing with whistle signal and player of the contester-team makes a fine hit once from distance of 15 m. During playing, if a sportsman makes technical mistakes twice, he will be gone away by referee’s decision.

In case sportsmen made technical accident or damage is inflicted for a camel or sportsman, field referee halts the playing with whistle signal and inform the chief referee. Time referee accounts excluding the term from the beginning of this moment until continued start.

Beater and ball

Diameter of the striking device must be 2-3 cm /20-30 mm/ /1.2 inches /, length 135-145 cm /55.10 inches/ and length of the horizontal cross wood 25 cm /9.87 inches/. Handle of the striking device can be made by willow bamboo and corpus should be made by lightwood with diameter not more than 20-30 mm /1.2 inches/. Ball should be special ball or simple rubber ball with diameter of 12-15 cm /5.6 inches/. This standard must be followed strictly especially for official competition. In case player makes fall his striking device, himself gets it and continues the playing. In case striking device of a player is broken down, the player will come to own door and change it.
