With the goal to implement new management to protect, raise world endangered two humped camel, “Mongolian Camel Polo” association was established and it's been 5 years since that time. During this period of 5 years, the association organized “Camel Polo” winter festival, “Camel Racing competition” 5 times in Umnugobi, Dornogobi, Dundgobi provinces, and in Ulaanbaatar city successfully, moreover, parade of 100 camels in Sukhbaatar square in 2007. Mongolians have been using camel as a basic mean of transportation for camel caravan and for war. Camel had been served as only transportation mean for Mongolians since ancient time until mid 1960's. Today, population of Mongolian camel has decreased by 4 times in last 30 years and total population of two humped camel reached 400 thousand only and faced with extinction. The association is now focusing on making community to be aware of protecting herd of camel, drafting a bill on camel protection, exempting camel raw materials from taxation, increasing price of camel's wool and milk, allocating natural resources to locals fairly, ensuring ecological security, protecting camel herder's right and improving their livelihood and directing state policy to development of camel farming. This initiative to organize this “ Mongol Gobi-Silk Road ” trip has been announced to president of Mongolia . The trip will be organized in 2 stages in 2008. The route of the historical camel trip of 21 st century would be from Oyutolgoi to Kharkhorin. Following activities are included in the program of the trip:
• Opening ceremony of the camel trip and festival will be held in February 20 in Oyu Tolgoi, Khanbogd soum. Camel Polo regional competition and camel racing competition would be organized. Opening ceremony for the monument of “Ulemjiin chanar” song will be organized in Demchig monastery, center of world energy and mining industry of Oyu Tolgoi as well as natural sceneries will be explored by participants. • Moreover trip of 100 camels and camel caravan will start their journey on February 23 and cover 160 kilometers of distance between 23 and 26 heading to Tavantolgoi mine, Tsogttsetsii soum, camel polo among 5 soums and camel caravan will continue its journey to Dalanzadgad city covering 100 kilometers of distance. Camel caravan will arrive in Dalanzadgad city on March 01, 2008. • Following activities are to be organized during March 01, and March 03, 2008 in Dalanzadgad city. • Camel Polo-2008, Winter festival, Polo championship of the country • Camel racing competition, other contests • Camel herders' conference, discussion on law draft on camel protection, camel product exhibition • Camel trip, organizing discussion on introducing camel polo into tourism business. Totally, 30 teams from Umnugobi, Dornogobi, Dundgobi, Uvurkhangai, Bayankhongor, Gobi-Altai and from Inner Mongolia of China will participate in Camel Polo competition, Championship of the country. During the activity, foreign tourists and domestic guests can tour Gobi Gurvan Saikhan mountain, Vulture's mouth and Khongor sand dunes. • “ Mongol Gobi-Silk Road ” camel trip will continue its journey covering 100 kilometers to Bulgan soum during March 04 and March 05. Participants will see Bayanzag and explore camel herder's family. Camel Polo competition will be held in Bulgan soum. • “ Mongol Gobi-Silk Road ” camel trip will continue its journey covering 100 kilometers to Bulgan and Mandal Ovoo soum during March 07 and March 08. Camel Polo competition will be held in Mandal Ovoo soum. During this time participants will acquaint with gold mine of Olon Ovoot. 1 st stage of “ Mongol Gobi-Silk Road ” will start from Oyu Tolgoi, Dalanzadgad and Mandal Ovoo, 2 nd stage will start from Mandal Ovoo soum of Umnugobi province through Saikhan Ovoo of Dundgobi, Bayangol of Uvurkhangai, Arvaikheer and Khujirt soums and will finish in Kharkhoring city, ancient capital of Great Mongolian Empire on November 15. We hereby announce you a proposal to organize promotion and sponsoring of this historical activity which would be held in 21 st century as well as to collaborate with us.
