About 20 million camels are growing in more than 40 countries on the 13 million sq kilometer plane area of the account 65 per cent of the world’s desert area.

76 per cent of all camels in the earth are living in the 18 countries of Africa, 24 per cent of them in more than 20 countries of Asia, and 90 per cent of all camels in the earth are 1 humped, 4.3 per cent of them are 2 humped camels.

2 humped camels are growing in Kazak, Kalmia, Kyrgyz, Altai, Tuba, Buried, Chit, China, Mongolia, which are countries with cold weather and located high area, more over mostly using for riding, by route of wool, milk, and meat. Recently camels have been grown for “Polo” sport game, and any competition of it.

Mongolia is the eldest country of tamed and accustoms camels to a new environment in our country. Wild Camels, which are ancestors of one and two humped camels, are still being breeding in our Mongolian country.

About 30 per cent of 2 humped camels in the world are /breeding/ propagating in Mongolia.
In 1954 there were 895.3 thousand camels in Mongolia. That mean, it was equal numbers of camels were in the world now a days.

There were 256.7 thousand camels accounted in the end of 2003. It showes camel head numbers goes down 3.5 times from 1954. Camels became very rare every year. Needs to protect, and to raise 2 humped camels are not only Mongolian issue. Worldwide is paying attention on this issue too.

3.7 per cent of Mongolian all production of livestock farming, in this 0.5 per cent of milk, 17 per cent of wool, 3 per cent of meat have use from camels. As well, Camel executives 25-30 per cent of nomadic livestock farming transportation in the rural, about 40 per cent of income of the family in the govi has taken from camel.

We have made 2.5-meter woolen cloth, or 1sq meter blanket, or 1-1.5 woolen jacket and 4 neckerchiefs by 1 kg pure wool.

Camel gives a birth one time in every two-year, and almost do not give a birth of twins, sluggish growth animal.
Camel milking period is long, almost for 13 months.

There are high oil, a lot of different kind of vitamins, protein in the camel milk, and can be keep longer than another cattle’s milk.Also it has high significant of sanatorium and treatment / to treat liver, bile, edema, and nephritis /. Camel milk is suitable for children’s victuals.

During the milking, female camel gives 250-300 liter best milk. Recently there is camel milk Sanitarium has opened, and it works intensive for protection human health.

Mongolian Camel Polo Association is working on the following projects turned to foreign and domestic organizations for the protection 2 humped camels, also advertising, and more using their productivity.
